Hardwood

Pros:

  • Hardwood floors can be refinished repeatedly, extending their lifespan and giving them a timeless quality.
  • Unique due to the specific grain patterns of each tree
  • Adds value to any space or home

Cons:

  • You may have to refinish the floors periodically to maintain quality
  • A wood that is softer can scratch or dent more easily
  • Hardwood floors do not muffle noise

Laminate

Pros:

  • Laminate is sturdy and very easy to clean
  • Stain proof and will not fade
  • Generally, laminate is cheaper than hardwood

Cons:

  • Heavily worn laminate must be replaced not refinished
  • Does not change resale value of a home
  • Laminate is not identical to hardwood

Vinyl

Pros:

  • Soft and reduces noise
  • Easy installation and the replacement of worn or damaged tiles is fairly easy
  • Very water resistant

Cons:

  • How quality Low quality vinyl shows wear and tear easily
  • Can be damaged by heavy loads
  • With direct sunlight, tiles can become discolored. Because of that, vinyl is not recommended for outdoor use

Tile

Pros:

  • Tile is very durable and provide a timeless look
  • Maintenance is easy and cleaning is a breeze
  • Moisture resistant

Cons:

  • Because of the material, tile is cold under your feet
  • Periodically, grout must be resealed
  • Installation can be tricky and is best left to professionals
